Thumbs Up: Stop Motion
This stop motion short film was the result of a fruitful collaboration with three of my fellow graphic designers. It was our first time experimenting with frame by frame animation and a great learning experience. What is most interesting about this animation technique is the way it allows us to create scenes that could never happen in real life.
We built a character out of red plasticine and followed him on his tumultuous journey in and out of a copying machine. We were able to personalize an inanimate object, giving it a voice and a purpose. Our red ball is a likeable character who makes the audience smile to themselves as he’s being repeatedly crushed under the weight of the copying machine. In a way, this short animation was a metaphor for our personal experience as graphic design students being tested and having to build ourselves back up in order to produce successful projects, such as the poster that gets a thumbs up from our wise professor Reza Abedini.
