W.C. The Waiting Club: Coffee & Ink
A short animation inspired by true events, that offers social commentary on the types of people who wait in endless queues without knowing what they are waiting for. When I first moved to New York, I began noticing an interesting social phenomenon; whether people were waiting for the elevator, the bathroom, an iPhone or even coffee, queues were forming everywhere. Coming from a chaotic country like Lebanon, that doesn’t abide by most rules, standing patiently and peacefully in line for an extended period of time and for unknown reasons was a foreign concept to me.
Through a series of character vignettes, I critique a culture of followers who blindly join the masses in fear of missing out. From a couple that cannot keep their hands off each other to a grumpy old man struggling to walk without his cane, each caricaturized character adds another layer to the humorous and satirical commentary. This animation was completed through both the consumption and use of coffee, integrating stop motion as well as digital animation techniques.
