Recycled Dubonnet: 3D Poster
A. M. Cassandre’s Dubonnet poster is an Art Deco classic and a personal favorite. It was therefore an instinctive decision to use it as the basis for a three dimensional reinterpretation. This serial poster for the Dubonnet wine company is a visual pun seeing as it necessitates all three posters to be seen in rapid succession to convey the complete idea of the man being literally filled by his consumption of wine. I wanted to use a medium that could translate the initial transparency of the character created by Cassandre. Besides the hat, I constructed my sculpture entirely out of recycled water bottles of all sizes. It was an interesting challenge to translate a flat image onto an actual object with volume and depth. The manner in which I built my 3D poster allowed for a small opening at the bottom of the makeshift glass of wine, for his arm to be filled with cranberry juice during a live demonstration. I wanted Cassandre’s poster to literally come to life.
