Tayyeb: Food Festival Newsletter
For this project, I designed an identity for an imagined local food festival from scratch. The hand lettered “Tayyeb” logo is a transliteration of the Arabic word for tasty. I also borrowed typographic diacritics such as the dots from Arabic script and strategically placed them above or below the letters they usually accentuate. The idea behind the cover series, was to visually represent the piling on of food as well as the strange combinations of flavors that one experiences at such festivals.
I did so through hand-drawn monoline illustrations, that have an organic feel to them. I expanded further on the design of the yellow mustard cover by creating a complete newsletter regarding the event. It includes additional illustrations rendered in the same technique and which interact with the different layers of information. For example the cheese grater serves as a program schedule and the participating chefs and restaurants are introduced as the core components of an appetizing sandwich.
