Paris Texas: Iconic Movie Poster
Wim Wenders' iconic 1984 drama film tells the story of a man who, after mysteriously wandering out of the desert, reconnects with his son and his estranged wife. The main challenge I faced with this project was creating an alternative image to be associated with this movie, rather than the well-known photograph of the actress in her pink sweater. I chose to represent the movie's underlying themes of loss and miscommunication through an abandoned phone in the desert, thus referencing the famously painful scene where the two protagonists attempt to have a conversation. It was important for me to include in my poster a glimpse of the scenic desert landscapes so often represented throughout the movie. I also played on the wording of the title “Paris Texas” by flipping Texas in order for the words to share the letter S, thus emphasizing the reigning confusion regarding the geographic setting of the movie.
